Our Approach:

tick image

Automotive-Focused Expertise

We work solely on vehicles. From classics to modern performance cars, our experience allows us to assess each car individually and tailor the approach based on its condition, history, and intended use.

tick image

Condition-Led Preservation

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all process, we inspect first, test where needed, and only carry out work that is appropriate for the vehicle. While our packages provide a clear framework, the goal is always preservation - not unnecessary intervention.

tick image

Selective Cleaning & Protection

Dry ice blasting is used carefully to remove contamination, loose corrosion, and underseal without damaging underlying surfaces. Where required, we then apply targeted protection treatments to stabilise and preserve the vehicle long-term.

tick image

Documentation & Transparency

Every vehicle is documented using our digital photo and video system, with customers receiving a treatment plan that records the work completed and provides guidance on future preservation and maintenance.

tick image

Process & Suitability

Dry ice blasting is a controlled, low-impact cleaning method that uses no water and introduces no cleaning chemicals during the cleaning stage. It is fundamentally different from pressure washing or steam cleaning, relying instead on thermal shock to lift contamination without saturating the vehicle. While significantly less aggressive than abrasive blasting, it is far more effective than washing methods and leaves no moisture or media behind – making it well suited to preservation-focused work on sensitive areas.

What is Dry Ice Blasting?

What is Dry Ice Blasting?

Dry ice blasting is a non-abrasive surface treatment process that uses solid CO₂ (carbon dioxide) pellets accelerated in compressed air. On impact, the pellets sublimate – turning directly from solid to gas – which helps lift contamination from the surface without introducing moisture, abrasive media, or secondary residue.

This makes the process well suited to automotive preservation work, particularly in sensitive areas such as engine bays, underbodies, wheel arches, and complex assemblies where traditional cleaning or abrasive methods would be inappropriate.

How Does Dry Ice Blasting Work?

Dry ice pellets are accelerated in a controlled stream of compressed air and directed at the surface being treated. The pellets are extremely cold (approximately –78°C), and on impact they undergo rapid sublimation, creating thermal shock that helps break the bond between contaminants and the surface.

Unlike abrasive blasting, the process does not erode the underlying material. And because the dry ice converts directly to gas, no moisture or secondary media is left behind – reducing the need for extensive strip-down and making the process well suited to preservation-focused automotive work.

Why Choose Dry Ice Blasting for Your Vehicle?

Effective Automotive Cleaning Icon

Condition-Led Contamination Removal

Dry ice blasting removes bonded dirt, oil, loose corrosion and failing coatings without introducing moisture or abrasive media – making it well suited to underbodies, engine bays and complex assemblies.

Non-Abrasive for Automotive

Non-Abrasive Alternative to Sandblasting

Unlike abrasive blasting, dry ice does not erode metal or strip sound factory finishes. When applied correctly, it lifts contamination while preserving original surfaces.

Still Unsure? Check Out These FAQs

vector

What types of vehicles are best suited for dry ice blasting?

Dry ice blasting is particularly suited to classic cars, modern performance vehicles, and well-maintained daily drivers where preservation of original materials is important. It is commonly used on underbodies, engine bays, wheel arches, and complex assemblies where abrasive or water-based methods would be inappropriate.
accordian image

Can dry ice blasting remove rust?

Dry ice blasting removes loose corrosion, contamination, and underseal. It does not rebuild or repair damaged metal. Where corrosion is present, we stabilise it using appropriate rust treatment before applying long-term protection.
accordian image

What makes dry ice blasting more effective than pressure washing or sandblasting?

Dry ice blasting sits between pressure washing and abrasive blasting. It is more effective than pressure washing at removing bonded contamination and loose corrosion, yet does not erode surfaces or leave blasting media behind like sandblasting. Because dry ice sublimates on impact, no moisture or secondary residue is introduced.
accordian image

Is dry ice blasting safe for electrical components, brake lines and fuel pipes?

When applied correctly at appropriate pressures and ice distribution, dry ice blasting is well suited to sensitive components. Because the process does not introduce water or abrasive media, it can be used safely around wiring and mixed-material assemblies.
accordian image

Does dry ice blasting remove factory finishes or original coatings?

Dry ice blasting is designed to remove contamination without stripping sound factory finishes. However, loose, failing or poorly adhered coatings may lift during the process – often revealing areas that require treatment to prevent further corrosion.
accordian image

What happens if corrosion holes or weak metal are discovered?

In some cases, dry ice blasting may reveal pre-existing weak areas or perforation that were previously concealed by dirt or underseal. If identified, these areas are stabilised and may require welding by a specialist. Discovering issues early typically prevents more extensive and costly repairs later.
accordian image

Do you offer a guarantee?

Yes – we call it our Preservation Guarantee. We’re confident in our process and we stand behind the result.
That’s why our Full Preservation Package and above includes a written guarantee. If corrosion returns in a treated area because the protection system has not performed as intended, we will inspect the vehicle and re-treat the affected area – ensuring the underside remains protected for the long term. Speak to the team for more information.
accordian image

How long does the process take?

Time varies depending on vehicle size and condition. Underbody blasting typically requires 10–15 hours of work, plus additional time for rust stabilisation, protection application, and curing. More extensive preservation packages may require longer. We confirm timelines following inspection.
accordian image

Will you need to keep my car?

Most underbody preservation work requires the vehicle to remain with us for a full working week to allow for thorough blasting, protection application, and proper curing. We confirm the required timeframe prior to booking.
accordian image

How soon can I get booked in?

Availability varies throughout the year. We recommend enquiring early, particularly during peak restoration and winter preparation periods. Current lead times are provided upon enquiry.
accordian image

Is any preparation required before my booking?

No preparation is required from you. We carry out inspection and testing where necessary and will advise in advance if anything specific is required for your vehicle.
accordian image

How often should dry ice blasting be carried out?

There is no fixed schedule. Many owners choose dry ice blasting prior to applying rust protection, after purchasing a vehicle, or as part of long-term preservation planning. Ongoing maintenance depends on usage, storage conditions, and environmental exposure.
accordian image

Can dry ice blasting improve resale value?

Well-documented preservation work can enhance buyer confidence and demonstrate responsible ownership. While resale value depends on many factors, a clean, stabilised and protected underbody is viewed positively by knowledgeable buyers.
accordian image

Do you offer a mobile service?

We primarily operate from our controlled workshop environment to ensure consistent results and proper documentation. Limited mobile work may be available in suitable trade or workshop settings — please contact us to discuss requirements.
accordian image

Can you collect and deliver my car?

Yes. Collection and delivery can be arranged subject to availability and location. Please enquire for details.
accordian image

Do you carry out other restoration work?

We focus exclusively on dry ice blasting and automotive preservation. Where additional work such as welding or repairs is required, we can provide in-house support, liaise with trusted partners or coordinate with your preferred specialist. Every vehicle and owner has different requirements, and this is discussed on a case-by-case basis.
accordian image

Do you offer Lanoguard treatment?

Yes. Lanoguard Clear is included within certain packages. Alternative protection systems such as Bilt Hamber, Dinitrol, and Feynlab are available depending on the required level of protection and longevity.
accordian image

Can dry ice blasting be used on vehicle interiors?

Our primary focus is on structural and mechanical areas such as underbodies and engine bays. Interior use may be possible in certain scenarios, but this is assessed case by case and is not part of our standard preservation packages.
